The $800 Decision That Determines Whether Your Servers Overheat, Your Cables Reach, and Your Rack Fits Through the Door
The rack cabinet is the most underestimated component in a data center deployment. Order the wrong depth and your 800mm-deep GPU servers hang off the back. Order the wrong door and the hot-aisle containment breaks your cooling design. Order the wrong width and the rack does not fit through the server room door. A 42U 600mm-deep rack cabinet — the standard enterprise specification — handles 95 percent of deployments, but the details matter: perforated front and rear doors for airflow, adjustable mounting rails for depth flexibility, cable management rings, and a static load rating of 800-1,000 kg.

Rack Cabinet Sizing: The Three Dimensions That Matter
| Server Type | Server Depth (From Front Flange to Rear) | Required Rack Depth | Recommended Rack |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard 2U servers (R660, R760, 2288H V7) | ~780mm | 1,000mm rack (allows cable management room) | 600 x 1000 x 2000mm, 42U |
| Short 1U edge servers (R470) | ~600mm | 800mm rack sufficient | 600 x 800 x 2000mm, 42U |
| GPU servers (XE9680, G5500 V7) | ~900mm+ (6U, 4U chassis with GPU power) | 1,100-1,200mm rack | 600 x 1100 x 2000mm (or wider 800mm) |
| Storage arrays (5288 V7, JBOD) | ~800mm | 1,000mm rack | 600 x 1000 x 2000mm, 42U |
Measure your server depth before ordering the rack. A 900mm-deep GPU server requires a 1,100mm+ rack depth. The rear cable management space (the gap between the server rear and the rack rear door) needs at least 150mm for cable bend radius.
Airflow Design: The Perforation Percentage Matters
A rack with solid doors turns into an oven. A rack with 68 percent open-area perforated doors allows natural convection and supports up to 4 kW of air-cooled equipment per rack without forced airflow. For hot-aisle containment designs, the perforated front door draws cold air from the cold aisle and the perforated rear door exhausts into the hot aisle. Solid doors are for immersion-cooled racks or acoustic isolation — not for standard air-cooled servers.
Rack Cabinet Configuration Options
- Standard: 42U, 600x1000mm, perforated doors, no fans — covers 90 percent of deployments
- With Cable Management: Add rear vertical D-ring managers and horizontal cable tray — recommended for any rack with more than 8 servers
- With Cooling Fans: Add 2x top-mounted fans (40 CFM each) for hot-spot relief in racks with high-density switches or GPUs
- With Security: Add front door lock (keyed), rear door lock, and side panel locks for physical security compliance

Frequently asked questions
Can the configuration be changed before shipping?
Listed specification: 600mm Deep Data Center Enclosure. Yes. CPU, memory, drives, RAID card, power supply and rails can all be configured to your requirement. Send the target specification and we quote against it.
Are the servers tested before dispatch?
Every unit is powered on, firmware-checked and burn-in tested before dispatch. Test logs or photos can be shared on request.
Do you supply rails, bezel and cable management arm?
Rails and accessories are quoted separately or bundled. Tell us the rack depth and we confirm the right rail kit for the chassis.
Can you confirm the exact model, part number and condition before I order?
Yes. Before the order we send the exact model, part number, condition and full configuration list — CPU, memory, drives, RAID card, power supply — for your written confirmation.
How are warranty and lead time handled?
Warranty and lead time are quoted per order, because they depend on configuration and destination. Condition grade is stated per unit, on every quote line. Nothing is assumed on our side.
