That Server You Ordered Has Eight Empty DIMM Slots. Here Is Why That Matters.
A Dell R770 ships with 32 DIMMスロット. Your order says 512 GB. The system integrator put 8x 64 GB DIMMs in it. That leaves 24 empty slots. More importantly, it leaves 8 memory channels completely unpopulated — CPU1 channels E, F, G, H and CPU2 channels E, F, G, H have zero DIMMs. Half your memory bandwidth is gone before the server finishes POST.
The Samsung 64 GB DDR5-5600 ECC RDIMM is a dual-rank, x4-organized, registered DIMM built on Samsung 10nm-class (1ある) DRAM process. At 5600 MT/s in 1DPC configuration, it delivers the rated speed on all current-generation Dell PowerEdge and xFusion FusionServer platforms. Three Rules for Ordering This DIMM
1. Match DIMMs within a channel. Every DIMM on the same memory channel must be identical — same capacity, same speed bin, same rank count, same vendor. Mixing a Samsung 64 GB with an SK hynix 64 GB on the same channel forces both DIMMs to train down to the slowest common timing supported by both vendors. Buy DIMMs in matched kits.
2. Populate all channels before going 2DPC. If your server has 16 メモリーチャンネル (dual-socket Xeon) and you need 1 結核, order 16x 64 GB (one per channel) で 5600 MT/秒. Do not order 16x 64 GB and populate them in 8 channels at 2DPC — the speed drops to 4800 MT/s and you lose 14% bandwidth. Same DIMM count, same total capacity, different channel population, different performance.
3. Check the platform QVL. This Samsung 64 GB part (M321R8GA0BB0-CQK or equivalent) is on the Dell PowerEdge 16th Gen and xFusion FusionServer V7 QVL. If your platform is an earlier generation (14th Gen, V6), verify QVL compatibility — not all DDR5 RDIMMs are backward-compatible with DDR4 platforms, and not all DDR5-5600 DIMMs train correctly on DDR5-4800 native platforms.
