The Intel X710-DA2 shipped in 2015. It has been in production for over a decade. In that time, Intel has shipped millions of these adapters, accumulated billions of hours of production telemetry, and iterated the driver through every major OS release. The X710-DA2 is not the fastest 10GbE adapter and it is not the newest. It is the most battle-tested 10GbE adapter in existence — and for infrastructure servers, backup targets, and management networks where reliability matters more than a few microseconds of latency, that decade of production history is the specification that matters.

Where the X710-DA2 Is Still the Right Choice

Backup target servers: A Veeam repository writing at 2 GB/s saturates one 10GbE port. The X710’s mature driver is the safest choice for the backup server that must be up during every overnight window.
Management networks: Out-of-band management traffic (iDRAC/iBMC, IPMI, SNMP) never exceeds 1 Gbit/s. The X710 at 1GbE SFP mode with copper transceivers is overkill but rock-solid.
Legacy environments: ESXi 6.7, Windows Server 2016, RHEL 7 — the X710 driver supports them all. The E810 driver does not support ESXi 6.7 or RHEL 7.
Budget-constrained infrastructure: À 35 percent of the E810’s price, the X710 delivers 80 percent of the practical value for infrastructure workloads.
